We are delighted to announce the appointment of our new youth-led Board, who will take on their new roles as SYP gets ready to welcome a new membership later this year.
Following our Annual General Meeting (AGM), which took place last Saturday (17 October), MSYPs have elected Jack Anderson MSYP as our new Chair and Ella Quinn MSYP as our new Vice Chair – both passionate about young people’s rights and with plenty of experience under their belts!
Jack is MSYP for Dundee City East and has been the Chair of Dundee Youth Council since February 2023. He was also a Convener of our Justice Committee before being elected an SYP Trustee in 2025.
What is Jack interested in? He’s campaigned on a wide range of topics since becoming an MSYP, passing Motions on education, artificial intelligence, retail worker violence, mis- and disinformation, and access to entry-level jobs. Watch his interview with ITV News on youth unemployment here.
Meanwhile, Ella is MSYP for Angus South and was an SYP Trustee before her appointment as Vice Chair. She has been a member of the Angus Youth Voice Champions Network and has spoken up about improving access to period products in schools through the Providing Access, Dismantling Stigma (PADS) campaign, which she co-founded.
Speaking following the AGM, Jack said:
I am delighted to have been elected to lead the organisation over the next year. Across Scotland, young people are facing serious challenges across mental health, unemployment, education and housing. Our members are passionate about campaigning for action to address these issues and make Scotland a better place for young people to grow up. I am looking forward to supporting this work to ensure that young people’s views remain part of the conversation and are taken seriously by decision-makers both locally and nationally.
Ella, our new Vice Chair, said:
Having been a Trustee, I have seen the important work that goes on behind the scenes to support MSYPs and make sure young people’s voices are heard. As Vice Chair, I’m looking forward to building on this work and helping create an environment where all MSYPs feel supported to represent the young people in their communities.
Alongside Jack and Ella, five new Trustees have also been elected: Andrew Will, MSYP for YMCA Scotland; Jamie Dickson, MSYP for Caithness, Sutherland and Ross; Emma Henderson, MSYP for Cunninghame North; Matthew Gordon, MSYP for Glasgow Kelvin; and Shona Cuthbert, MSYP for Edinburgh Southern.
The new Board will help guide SYP into its next chapter as the organisation prepares to welcome a new cohort of MSYPs. Young people aged 12–25 across Scotland can get ready to vote for their next representatives in November, with further information on this year’s SYP elections available here.
