Update from SYP Chair

Posted on

Our Chief Executive, Ben McKendrick, has announced his intention to stand down in June 2023, to take up a clerking role in the Scottish Parliament.

Chair of the Scottish Youth Parliament, Mollie McGoran MSYP, said:

By the time he leaves, Ben will have been Chief Executive of SYP for over 8 years, the longest serving CEO in our short but storied time as an organisation that punches well above its weight.

Speaking on behalf of myself, current and past trustees, and the staff team, Ben has been an inspiration to work with. His strength, passion and commitment to this organisation is unparalleled, and he will be sorely missed. I have learned so much from him.

Ben has always been an ardent supporter of youth participation and a champion of children and young people’s rights in Scotland – he will always be a Human Rights Defender. From all of us at SYP, I wish him the very best for the future.

Announcing his news today, Ben McKendrick commented:

Working at SYP has been the privilege of my life. I am very excited about my new role but am also sad to be leaving this incredible organisation. I am immensely proud of all we have achieved together in my time at SYP and am especially grateful to the MSYPs, SYP Trustees, the SYP staff team, and our many partners and stakeholders across the country for their support

A competitive recruitment process will commence on Friday 21st April.
