LockdownLowdown: phase 2
Commissioned by the Scottish Government, we partnered with YouthLink Scotland and Young Scot, to deliver LockdownLowdown. As lockdown restrictions change, we launched a survey to follow-up to research conducted earlier in the year that explored young people’s immediate concerns in response to COVID-19. The new LockdownLowdown report examines the longer-term impacts of coronavirus and the concerns of young people as the country adjusts to shifting lockdown restrictions.
The survey received over 6,000 responses from young people. Alongside the survey, phase 2 included a series of focus groups with young people whose voices are seldom heard – to identify if the pandemic has impacted pre-existing inequalities. The ‘What young people in Scotland think about their lives as lockdown restrictions change’ report was published in February 2021 and included key findings from a demographic breakdown of young people’s views.
We held focus groups with black young people and young people of colour; young people with disabilities; care experienced young people; young carers; and, young people with experience of the criminal justice system. The key themes which emerged from qualitative responses gathered include:
- School, learning and employment
- Relationships and Friends
- Space
- Perceptions of COVID restrictions
- Social media
- Information, Mental Health, Wellbeing, Support and Digital Access
