Hi! I’m Martha, an S6 student soon heading to university to study International Relations and Politics.
I joined a Girlguiding Rangers unit last year and I’m now part of the World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts, where I’ve met tons of inspiring people! I’m also working towards my next Saltire Award by volunteering with my local youth group, where I help organise activities and events for the young people attending.
I’m a keen sustainability enthusiast, so I interned with the Scottish Parliament’s Sustainability Office and encourage people to adopt environmentally conscious values through my role as a Young Climate Forth Volunteer. Beyond volunteering, I’ve become more interested in tennis, and I play field hockey for my school and local club!
I wanted to become an MSYP to amplify the voices of Girlguiding members in decision making and help shape a future where they can thrive. Girlguiding Scotland is full of ambitious, driven young women and girls who deserve a platform to express what matters to them, and I believe SYP is the perfect space for that! In a political environment where young people are often overlooked or disengaged, I wanted to represent my National Voluntary Organisation to empower and uplift young voices.
Three important issues I’m passionate about: tackling gender-based discrimination towards women, climate change, and career support for young people from low socio-economic backgrounds.
Fun fact: I love reading — anything from historical fiction to classic ‘whodunnit’ mysteries. I also promote reading at my school as a Reading Ambassador!
