Education Reform: consulting with children and young people

Posted on

Alongside the Children’s Parliament and Together the Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP) is supporting children and young people to meaningfully participate in the decisions being made around education reform in Scotland.

Professor Ken Muir CBE is leading a consultation on education reform for the Scottish Government. Alongside this SYP, Children’s Parliament, and Together have been working to involve children and young people in this consultation. We developed toolkits and an online survey that ran throughout October and November 2021.

We have had an amazing response.

  • 1,210 primary school aged children engaged with the online or downloadable toolkits, taking part in conversations facilitated by adults known to them. This included 53 Members of Children’s Parliament.
  • 394 secondary school aged children and young people engaged with the toolkit designed for them, again facilitated by an adult known to them. This included 25 Members of SYPs Learner Panel
  • 3,889 12 to 18 year olds responded to the online survey.

We are now writing a report based on everything we have heard.

We will publish the results on this page soon.

This consultation is being managed by Children’s Parliament, Scottish Youth Parliament, and Together (Scottish Alliance of Children’s Rights). It is supported by Scottish Government.
