Between June and November 2024, we worked in partnership with Police Scotland to engage with Care Experienced young people across Scotland, to inform the 2024-27 Police Scotland Corporate Parenting Plan.
The aim of this project was to gather Care Experienced young people’s views and experiences of interactions with Police Scotland, to review the previous Corporate Parenting Plan, and to make recommendations for the next Corporate Parenting Plan.
To ensure Care Experienced young people’s voices were at the forefront of this project, our Youth Engagement Workers worked with Care Experienced MSYPs to co-design this project, to create a survey and focus group plan, analyse the findings, and agree recommendations.
120 Care Experienced young people took part in this project, through an online survey and taking part in focus groups. The findings from this engagement and a set of recommendations were presented to Police Scotland in November 2024. What Police Scotland thought about working with us.
We wanted to take a different approach and ensure that young people with care experience were at the heart of the development of Police Scotland’s new Corporate Parenting Plan 2024-27. Working with SYP was refreshing – they were always responsive, flexible, and really understood what we were looking to achieve. Our partnership demonstrated what is possible when we think differently and build in engagement and participation from the very start. We need ensure plans and policy respond to the experiences and needs of communities and this is one example of how we are doing this. Thank you, SYP!
