Today marks one month to go for young people across Scotland to apply to stand as a Member of the Scottish Youth Parliament.

Those aged between 14 and 25 can express their interest by applying online on the SYP website.

After young people apply, they will be put in touch with an election coordinator, who will support them to plan and run their election campaign. Training and development resources will also available for candidates.

Commenting on the opportunity, SYP Chair Mollie McGoran MSYP said:

This is a chance to join a uniquely youth-led organisation to campaign for change on the important issues that young people care about.

As well as giving a voice to children and young people, MSYPs will also build their confidence and learn new skills all whilst having fun and making friends along the way.

Mollie McGoran MSYP, SYP Chair

Standing in the SYP elections will help you develop skills and knowledge, make friends all over Scotland, meet decision makers, campaign for change, and be part of a community of like-minded young people.

The closing date for applications is Friday 1st September 2023.
