#SYPlatform – The latest from SYP | 31 Oct 2025

Welcome to #SYPlatform – your fortnightly update on everything happening across SYP.

What a busy month we’ve had! Our Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYPs) have absolutely smashed it at several conferences and youth-led events, making sure young people’s voices aren’t just heard, but are leading the way in Scotland. As we look ahead to the Cabinet Takeover next month, here’s what we’ve been up to over the last two weeks.

Before you go, make sure to follow us on LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram so you don’t miss any #SYProjects.

We’ve championed online child safety across Scotland!

We’ve teamed up with the National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) to explore how child safety online can be improved by focusing on young people’s views and experiences. The project began in December 2024 and involved several regional groups across the country – which, we’re pleased to say, have now all been completed!
Keep your eyes peeled for more updates, and in the meantime, we want to thank Rajsee Saraf MSYP, Nathi Halimana, and Catriona Daw MSYP for all their help.

NSPCC workshops were held all over Scotland, including Paisley and Campbeltown!

We’ve visited Scotland’s first Ukrainian school

The SYP team travelled to Glasgow to visit St Mary’s Ukrainian School – the first of its kind in Scotland. Founded in 2024, the school aims to preserve Ukraine’s language and cultural heritage among the diaspora while the country remains in conflict. Lessons range from music and geography to art and speech development.
We also owe thanks to Nazarii Lialiuk MSYP, co-founder of the school and a proud representative of the Ukrainian community in Scotland. His involvement with St Mary’s recently earned him a spot at the BBC Make a Difference Awards – more on this soon!

Nazarii Lialiuk MSYP looked great at the BBC Make a Difference Awards!

We’ve attended the European Rural Youth Parliament

On 21 October 2025, Jake MacCulloch, Feji Ugbehe, Mairi Millar, and Abbie McPherson MSYPs took part in the European Rural Youth Parliament in Inverurie.
The event gathered delegates from around 43 countries to celebrate rural communities and call for recognition, support, and genuine partnership to achieve long-lasting change.
Jake, Feji, Mairi, and Abbie – well done for representing SYP so brilliantly!

We’ve launched our Learning for Sustainability report

In partnership with the Scottish Government and other key stakeholders, we launched the Young People’s Views and Experiences of Learning for Sustainability in Scotland report on World Sustainability Day (Wednesday 29 October)!
The report draws on insights from fifteen workshops held across Scotland, which looked at ways to make Learning for Sustainability more accessible, inclusive, and meaningful.
Check out the full report here.

We’ve taken part in national panels

The talented Rajsee Saraf, Ife Odemosu, and Amna Safa Ansar MSYPs took part in the NHS 2048: The Future Health in Scotland Conference at the Royal College of Physicians in Edinburgh on Monday, 27 October, where they joined the panel “What do the workforce of 2048 think?” to share young people’s concerns and aspirations about the future of the NHS.
Similarly, Marianna Medina MSYP spoke at the Voluntary Health Scotland (VHS) Annual Conference on Collaboration for Change in Glasgow the following day, where she discussed intersectionality in health. Keep up the good work, MSYPs!

We’ve attended the launch of YouthLink’s new manifesto

Ellie Craig MSYP, SYP’s Chair, attended the launch of YouthLink Scotland’s new manifesto – A Right, A Space, A Future, where she joined sector colleagues in championing young people’s rights and reinforcing the vital role of youth work in shaping Scotland’s future.
Nicely done, Ellie!

We’ve given evidence in Parliament

Kristers Lukins MSYP and Skye Allan MSYP gave evidence to the Social Justice and Social Security Committee on the Wellbeing and Sustainable Development Bill.
Both had previously taken part in a consultation workshop on the proposed Bill in 2024. Well done to you both!
