We launched bold new youth-led manifesto

Posted on

Members of the Scottish Youth Parliament (MSYPs) from across Scotland came together on Saturday, 06 September, to launch our brand-new manifesto.

Since last year, we’ve worked tirelessly to produce the 2026–2031 Manifesto: Dear Scotland’s Future, launched at our 83rd National Sitting in Paisley, Glasgow, this past weekend.

The manifesto reflects the voices of almost 5,000 young people across the country, gathered through a nationwide consultation earlier this year. It aims to influence decision-making in Scotland over the next five years and work with the next Parliament to make sure Scotland is the best place to grow up.

Ellie Craig, Chair of the Scottish Youth Parliament (SYP), commented:

“Our manifesto is written by young people, for young people. MSYPs have listened to the priorities, voices, hopes, and dreams of the young people in their local communities and ensured they are reflected throughout the entire process of creating this manifesto. This is more than a vision; it’s a mandate for change.

“This new manifesto not only offers a clear picture of what we want our future to look like but also provides a set of instructions for decision-makers to have a more youth-friendly approach to their work. It’s an exciting time for young people to be at the heart of deciding what Scotland will look like by 2031. Young people’s voices should always be heard during policymaking – and as MSYPs, we’re ready to make that happen.

“We’ll keep engaging with decision-makers and partners to bring the manifesto’s policies to life.”

The 2026–2031 Manifesto: Dear Scotland’s Future is structured around five key themes:

  • Accessible, Equitable and Inclusive Education
  • Safe and Supportive Communities
  • A Sustainable and Renewable Society
  • A Fairer and Just Scotland
  • Empowering Young People to Claim Their Rights

Alongside the new manifesto, SYP has also launched a new strategy which will lead us for the next five years and support our vision for Scotland.

It also highlights how SYP will support MSYPs to effect change and represent Scotland’s young people on the issues most important to them. The strategy can be found here
